Muskham Art Group – Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does it cost anything to join?

A. Yes. But not much! Currently the annual subscrption is £10.00 per person and it costs £3.00 for each session attended which goes towards the cost of hiring the Village Hall.

Q. Are there lessons and is there a set course?

A. No. There are no formal lessons – the demonstrations are the closest thing to lessons. There is a tutor with a wealth of experience who is available to give help, advice and constructive criticism if you need it. She is at the meetings once every other month.

There is no set course. You are free to do what you want to do, at your own speed.

Q. I am a complete beginner and I don’t want to feel out of place.

A. We have members of all abilities including some absolute beginners. The more experienced artists are happy to help and provide advice on materials and how to use them. The group also have a variety of materials that you can try to make sure you like them before you buy. We are a friendly bunch and we won’t let you stand in the sidelines!

Q. I am member of another Art Group – can I attend?

A. Yes. We have close ties with many art groups in the Newark area including the Newark Art Group itself. In addition we have links with art groups from across the UK and even into the US. All members of other art groups are most welcome to come along and join us.

Q. Do I have to join the SAA?

A. No. The SAA offers a mail order service for artists materials, books and videos at a discount to SAA members. They also offer free insurance when members’ work is exhibited. Muskham Art Group is affliated to the SAA. Visit their website for details. You will find them at www.saa.co.uk.
